Mohd Ashraf Hafiz Abdul Aziz aka Aleesha Farhana Died

According to Malaysia latest news, 25 year-old Malay Muslim transsexual Mohd Ashraf Hafiz Abdul Aziz who wanted to be known as Aleesha Farhana, died at the intensive care unit of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah in Kuala Terengganu on 30th July 2011. Doctors at the hospital said Ashraf was suffering from unstable angina with cardiogenic shock.

Only last week Mohd Ashraf Hafiz Abdul Aziz whose application to change his name to Aleesha Farhana was rejected by the High Court.

This Malaysian Muslim man had undergone a sexual reassignment surgery in Thailand in 2009.

According to a press report, Mohd Ashraf Hafiz Abdul Aziz’s father, Abdul Aziz said that he was sad when some quarters dismissed he and his wife as evil parents for having a son who had effeminate tendencies since he was a toddler. He added that their son Ashraf did not have male characteristics as he was growing up.

As reported in New Straits Times, transgender Ashraf said: “Like it or not, I will follow through with my case until I have exhausted all legal avenues. People may wish that I could just shut up or die, but I just want to live a peaceful life.”

Talking about transgender in Malaysia,  there are two movies about made by Malaysians. They are Ali Osman’s “Bukak Api” and Poh Si Tang’s ” Pecah Lobang” (Busted).

“Bukak Api” is about both transgender (Mak Nyah) and prostitutes working in the red-light areas in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur.

“Pecah Lobang” is a 30-minute documentary is about Natasha, a Muslim Mak Nyah (male to female transsexual) who refuses to live life as a man in Malaysia. She lives in the constant fear of the police and religious authorities.
