As I have said before, nowadays our so-called talented Malaysians are TRYING TOO HARD to be different. Probably they called it being CREATIVE.
Remember the controversial Ramadan and Hari Raya ads from Media Prima TV stations?
Petronas has tried too hard to be different and hoping this year Deepavali advertisement will go viral just like Korean pop singer Park Jae Sung, aka Psy’s “Oppan Gangnam style”.
Even the title itself “Do The Dappan” is obviously copied from “Do The Oppa Gangnam Style“.

Just two days on YouTube, this 3-minute irrelevant Deepavali advertisement by Petronas has drawn flak from viewers.
Remember Deepavali or Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights. It is not some street party and having a good time dancing away.
It supposed to promote and inculcate the common values from the diverse heritage, tradition and cultures that bring all Malaysians together.
This silly video is definitely not relevant to the spirit of the holy festival.
Now, Petronas has removed the ridiculous video, following the unfavorable feedback from the public.
Just dig deep into the rich and colorful culture, tradition, food, clothes, music, and lifestyle of Malaysian Indians, particularly the Hindus.
The problem with many Malaysians is, they always think that anything to do with Indians is dancing in the public ala Bollywood or Kollywood.
Just watch Malaysian TV comedy shows when they feature Indian characters. They would definitely include a dance sequence around the park or near a lake.
