In , two hundred people crammed into a tiny black box theater at the University of Michigan to see a parody musical about wizards, and witches, and magical beasts. The show was made on a shoestring budget, free to attend, and ran for one weekend. And thus, ten years ago, StarKid was born.
A collection of Starkid productions, all set in the fictional town of Hatchetfield. It is yet unclear of the chronological order that the shows will take place in within the universe, but it has been made clear that at least some of them take place in alternate timelines. All characters can be found here , and all cast members here. The only differences is that in the Black Friday universe, Hatchetfield manages to survive the apotheosis or perhaps it didn't happen at all , Emma Perkins and Paul Matthews become intimate although Emma is not yet comfortable with categorizing him as her "boyfriend".
MARKETS ARE CRASHING AND IM AT THE EDGE OF MY WITS
A recording of the musical was uploaded to YouTube on December 24, Funding for the show was done through Kickstarter , similarly to StarKid's most recent shows. A group of singing zombies address the audience, setting the scene in the tiny town of Hatchetfield and introducing the main character, unremarkable everyman Paul Matthews. Paul's day begins like any other, as he works dutifully at a nondescript office job alongside his coworkers: obnoxious womanizer Ted, sweet but unstable Charlotte, and Paul's closest friend, sheepish Bill. Charlotte has a phone conversation with her husband Sam, a police officer who dismisses her many attempts at affection. Bill invites Paul to come to see a touring production of Mamma Mia! Paul declines, stating that he would "rather do anything" than go see a musical. Paul goes to the local coffee shop, Beanie's, where he befriends Emma Perkins, a cute barista who shares his hatred for musicals. As he leaves the coffee shop, he is accosted by an activist from Greenpeace, who tries to solicit a donation from him. Their conversation is cut off by a rapidly approaching storm, which alarms townspeople all over Hatchetfield.
