This decision was not taken lightly, but it is the right decision. The Festival Committee recognised it would be now impossible to make all the necessary arrangements needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable Festival between now and July. They also recognised that no one knew with any certainty what the situation would be in July and therefore they had a clear moral obligation to cancel the Festival now to help protect the health and welfare of all those involved in the Festival, including of course the residents of Woodhall Spa. In making their decision the Committee were also conscious of the need to provide our local hoteliers and campsites with as much time as possible to re-arrange bookings etc. The Committee appreciates that this will be very disappointing news for many, but on a more positive note they also wanted to say that they were fully committed to ensuring the Festival returns better than ever in ; and everyone is invited to save the 17th and 18th July in their diaries. Finally, the Committee would like to send their best wishes and good luck to everyone over the next few challenging month. Why are you cancelling? Current guidance advises against or bans public gatherings and our event is scheduled too near in the future to be confident that it will be publicly safe to take place.
There will be troops representing both Allied and Axis war machines. By having a mixture of military branches represented, you can learn the differences in weaponry and the suitability of uniforms and equipment provided by nations to their front line soldiers. These re-enactors will live as the actual troops did over the weekend i. Some will allow you to hold weapons and equipment, so you will know the weight and struggle those veterans had to carry into battle. There will also be a selection of military vehicles on display, for the mechanically minded, to learn more about. Whilst the troops were on the front line, the home front had to become a war economy. Factories stopped producing their normal goods to become munition factories, aircraft factories etc. Ladies went to work on the land producing food and this was an era of true recycling, turning tin into tin hats, and clothing handed down, because people had little, but they all stuck together. Throughout the weekend there will be arena displays and events for all to enjoy, compered throughout. Food stalls, beer tent, s dance lessons, and daytime marquee entertainment.

Whilst the world adjusts to living and working within the latest Covid safety restrictions, Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust has needed to carefully review its operations, including future programming and events. At this time we feel that, within the current government guidelines, we would not be able to operate the event safely for our visitors, performers, traders and staff. Get ready for a party to end all parties! Start planning your vintage outfit and perfecting your victory rolls now. We are in the process of contacting ticket holders directly with information about their ticket.
